Purpose, Ambition and Alignment with Core Values
Often when a business or organization is established, the purpose is clear, and the direction is defined. Over the years as your business grows and evolves this purpose may expand or contract. With it, either the establishment or the review of the core values are important. Do they speak to your current purpose? Is your ambition in alignment with your purpose and core values?
Today, your purpose and core values have never been more important. The top candidates for employment often value purpose greater than compensation, and a message that gives them pride in joining your company and working to fulfill a purpose that they are aligned with as well.
Development, Structure, and Psychological Safety
Great ideas and innovative solutions often present a brilliant opportunity to create a business. This opportunity can perpetuate, and a going concern is created. However, leadership is not automatic, and while some can lead people naturally, it is far less common than perceived. Leadership development is critical to enduring success and is an ongoing journey.
Often leadership is operational in nature for a growing business and relies on the person or people to challenge and develop their teams. What is required for this leadership change with each stage of development, and the response of the team is critical to its success. Is the leadership of your team effective? Are you creating the space for your team to thrive? Is everyone being heard?
Do you have a strategy that aligns with your vision? Does it contemplate both short and long-term time frames? Is it understood within your company and followed by all? Do you have a comfortable time frame for your current strategy, or has it been disrupted?
It is not uncommon for a corporate strategy to go off the rails. Perhaps it wasn’t considered to the greatest degree with other ongoing activities when it was established, or it is no longer the most important consideration in the company’s day to day activities.
Could your company be performing at a higher level? Does there seem to be a lack of accountability, or a belief that more could be achieved with the resources and tools at hand.
This is often the case, and it starts with understanding if you have the right people in the right seats. Do they understand and identify with the purpose of what is trying to be achieved and is there an infectious passion that can be brought to the daily activities. Increasing the performance of your business by even a small percentage can result in substantial gains.
People are the greatest asset of all businesses yet remain the greatest challenge for many leaders. How do you align your people, your structure, your performance, and your success? Today’s human capital landscape is exceptionally challenging to attract and retain the greatest resources, and strong consideration between purpose and ambition is essential. A thoughtful succession plan is necessary for professional development and continued motivation. Executive succession planning is essential to a company’s future and a significant element of strategy for a business owner.
Efficiency, Cost Controls, Profitability, Process Transformation, Digital Transformation.
How effective are your operations? Have your processes ever been defined, or is business just done this way? Could another person step in and without help, follow a set of processes to be successful in a role?
Understanding and measuring the efficiency of your business is critical. Are you capturing the correct data to understand how effective you are? What does it cost to operate and how much control do you have over this? Can you reduce costs and drive greater profitability?
These are all important questions to consider when evaluating what you can accomplish.
The essential formula for business success is the correctly calibrated sales engine. Is the engine in neutral? Are your sales farmed or hunted? Is there a scalable process in place that can ensure exceptional customer service, and establish sustainable organic growth?
Often there is a breakdown or a gap in the sales process that leaves a prospect or customer hanging. This can occur between sales and operations, or simply the completion of a customer experience. If so, the sustainability of your sales may be at risk.
